The pesticide industry in India has recorded stable production over the past few years, but use of pesticides is still low among the farmers. Several factors such as the low awareness about pesticides among farmers, low level of irrigation, excessive dependence on monsoons, fragmented land holdings and the general financial inability of farmers have together contributed to the low use of pesticides in India. Sale of insecticides comprises the largest share among overall pesticide sales within the country. The pesticide segment is also highly fragmented and dominated by unorganised players. Going ahead, the sustainable growth of the agricultural sector will, in turn, lead to further expansion of the pesticide industry. Hide this
