Clothing stores in India come in all shapes and sizes, and can be standalone stores by themselves or be part of a retail store chain. These clothing stores cater to men, women, children or a combination of all these categories. With the clothing industry being largely fragmented in India, a lot of clothing stores fall under the unorganised segment and people prefer to buy clothes from small and wayside establishments. This is specially prevalent in rural and semi-urban areas.
However, a wave of brand consciousness has now swept over the urban shopping scenario and stores catering to a specific brand or set of brands have emerged. These stores are frequented by the upper middle and affluent classes, and are marked by high prices and quality products. Clothing stores in recent years are also stocking up on clothing accessories, as the average Indian consumer has become much more fashion conscious than before.
