Asthma is a very common medical disorder among the vast population of India and the government is actively involved in trying to check the spread of this disease. In medical terminology, asthma causes the airways present in the lungs to swell up and narrow down. Symptoms associated with the disease include difficulty in breathing, tightness in the chest and coughing. Symptoms of asthma in patients are usually started by a variety of allergy-causing triggers such as dust, pollen, cold weather, tobacco-induced smoke and so on.
Although the disease cannot be fully cured as yet, there are several types of treatment through which asthma can be kept well under control. Inhalers are considered to be one of the best forms of treatment of asthma all over the world, but are still largely underutilised in India. A lot of illiterate patients need to be properly informed about the signs of asthma and possible treatment of the disease, if it is to be fully controlled in future.
