India is a leading producer and exporter of fish and seafood products worldwide, with frozen shrimp contributing towards the highest share in exports. Indian seafood products are exported in large quantities to Europe, the US, China and Japan. The domestic fish and seafood industry is a significant revenue generator and is one of the largest sources of direct and indirect employment. The main advantages that the fish and seafood industry has in the country relates to its solid infrastructure, cheap cost of labour and the robust marine network.
