The diversity of India’s range of forested areas is a distinct advantage for the country’s wood industry. The country has an abundance of different kinds of forest growth such as tropical hardwood, deciduous, evergreen and coniferous forests. The wood industry produces a wide variety of items such as decorative and constructional plywood, hardboard, particleboard and fibreboard. Wood and wood-based products are demanded by several segments including defence, railways, furniture and individual consumers. However, the rapid depletion of the forest resources has dealt a blow to the industry’s future prospects.
