Proteomics has attained increasing significance on a global scale in the areas of medical diagnosis and pharmaceutical drug developmental research. The term ‘proteomics’ essentially refers to the study of proteins, especially their functions and structure. Proteomics instrumentation has been an important sub-sector where a lot of innovation has taken place in recent years. Proteomics has remained at the forefront of biological research in the country and has received significant support from the government. Apart from granting incentives, the government has also been active in setting up a number of central research agencies for this purpose. A number of research workshops and collaborations among various educational institutions in the field of proteomics have also led to its advancement in the country.
