Media and entertainment is a very fast growing industry segment in India, mainly due to the availability of more disposable income in the hands of the people and the new wave of digitalisation in the country. Media and entertainment covers a wide range of sub-sectors, including print, radio, television, music, films as well as other new age media such as cable, DTH, smartphones and tablets. The media and entertainment industry has immensely benefited from recent advances in digital content, more penetration in tier II and tier III cities and increasing internet usage.
Certain factors such as the increase in FM radio stations, digital content for cable television and online music and movie content have further boosted the prospects of the media and entertainment industry. The Indian film and music industries are also recording a high level of growth, thereby helping in the overall expansion of the industry. At the same time, the low penetration level of television and digital content and the boom in internet usage within the country provide immense potential for growth for this important industry.
