A significant change in lifestyles, increasing influence of Western culture, and the rise in disposable income among the people have led to continued development and expansion of the country’s luxury or gourmet foods category. Any kind of food that is rarely available, is expensive, has a complex manufacturing process and offers refinement in taste and texture is classified as luxury food. In India, the increasing presence of clubs, restaurants and other establishments that cater to the country’s affluent classes has resulted in the availability of luxury food products. Some categories of luxury foods include beluga caviar, kobe beef, white truffles, fugu and foie gras.
