In medical terms, a vaccine is a biological preparation that actually enhances a human being’s immunity against a specific disease. A vaccine contains an agent that is similar to the disease-causing micro-organism, and the exposure to this agent enables the body to be better prepared to fight the disease. In that way, vaccines provide artificially acquired immunity. They prevent a disease from occurring in the first place and prove to be a much cheaper alternative than getting treated when the disease actually occurs. While most vaccines are administered through injections, some are given by way of mouth or nasal sprays.
