Viticulture or the cultivation of grapes is an age-old practice in India, and winemaking has been a dominant industry within the country. However, the location of vines is limited, given the general heat and humidity that is a prominent feature of the country’s climate. Drip irrigation is largely used to boost production in the wine regions. Grape vines generally have a high rate of productivity, given the hot and humid climate. India has a significant portion of its cultivable land area dedicated to grape farming. However, production of fresh grapes comprises the dominant part, whereas a small portion is dedicated towards winemaking.
