India is well endowed with a wide variety of natural resources, with water being one of the dominant ones. However, the level of water supply and sanitation continue to be inadequate in meeting the needs of the country’ population, creating an urgent need to make them more efficient as processes. At the same time, India’s vast network of ports and harbours need to be technologically upgraded to handle more traffic as they are transit points used in a major part of the country’s commercial transactions. Some of the important ports in the country include the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Haldia port, Kolkata port, Mumbai port, Visakhapatnam port, Kandla port and so on. Proper and more efficient management of our water resources is essential for more sustained economic development, environmental upliftment and the reduction of poverty within the country.
