On a purely technical basis, the concept of ‘home testing’ refers to any kind of medical evaluation that is conducted by the consumer himself/herself by using a simple testing kit that is available at pharmacy stores or medical clinics. The home testing procedure is widely used all over the world as it enables patients to maintain their privacy and also save on high medical expenses. For instance, home pregnancy testing kits are gradually becoming popular among women in India to a large extent. Although still at a nascent stage, the home testing market is expanding at a rapid pace within the country. Home testing can be used for a variety of purposes, including screening for, diagnosis of or monitoring a disease. In some instances of chronic illnesses such as diabetes or high blood sugar, home testing sometimes proves to be a better option than a visit to the hospital.
