Cessation of smoking and drug abuse are being actively encouraged by governments and the entire healthcare fraternity all over the world as they have been found to be one of the leading causes of lung cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Smoking cessation refers to the process where a person discontinues the habit of inhaling any type of smoked substance. On the other hand, drug abuse is also known as substance abuse and refers to a process where a person uses a substance or a drug in a pattern in unauthorized amounts and without proper approval and supervision. Smoking and drug abuse are problems that have rapidly escalated in India in recent years and the government has remained extremely concerned about these health hazards. While lack of awareness is a major area of improvement, the country also requires a significant number of trained personnel and rehabilitation centres to combat this problem.
