The healthcare segment in India offers immense scope for improvement, given the relatively lower penetration of such services in the rural areas, and the recent increase in private healthcare spending. While the government has extended ample support in the form of hospitals and various health awareness initiatives, there is less reliance and confidence on public health facilities among the population. As a result, an overwhelming majority of people in the country spend on private healthcare facilities. The retail pharma market comprises a large part of the country’s healthcare scenario. While India has a high rate of infant mortality and chronic water-borne diseases, a large part of the population has access to only basic treatment facilities.
