The role of the transmission sector is to transfer power from the generating points to the distribution or consumptions hubs. The growth of the transmission sector is always in line with the expansion of capacity for installed generation. The domestic power generation sector is undergoing a constant process of system augmentation and addition of capacity. Following the sustained growth of the transmission sector in the country, the demand for high performance equipment and transmission lines has also gone up sequentially. The equipment industry also has to ramp up its manufacturing capacity as a natural outcome. However, going forward, the transmission sector has to overcome a number of bottlenecks in its growth path such as issues with obtaining clearances, problems in manufacturing equipment and grid indiscipline.
