Waste decontamination is a process through which hazardous contaminants that have gathered on personnel and equipment are removed or neutralized. The whole process is particularly important to ensure health and safety of workers employed at areas that have hazardous waste materials. Such hazardous waste materials or contaminants, if not neutralized, will eventually permeate into protective clothing and respiratory equipment used by these workers, causing major health hazards. By preventing the transfer of such materials into clean and habitable areas, waste decontamination does a great service to mankind as a whole. A decontamination plan is a must to begin the process of waste decontamination in the targeted area. Apart from this, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) should be strictly followed to ensure minimal contact with such hazardous waste materials.
