Infectious diseases fall under the category of communicable diseases and are clinically evident diseases that result from pathogenic biological agents that infect a single host organism. Some infectious diseases are also termed as ‘contagious’ when they are transmitted through contact with a medically sick individual. Contagious diseases are easily transmitted and they are highly infective in nature. An overwhelmingly vast majority of the Indian population is afflicted by a range of infectious diseases that include tuberculosis, malaria and HIV-AIDS. Treatment of infectious diseases depends on the type of germ that is responsible for causing the disease. Several types of medication can be used to combat infectious diseases, including antibiotics, antivirals, anti-fungals and anti-parasites.
