In medical terminology, wound care or wound management refers to the prevention of complications resulting from wounds in the human body as well as remedial steps for wound healing. While some wounds are less serious and heal within a short period of time, other difficult forms of wounds require the doctor to fully assess the patient, which is not limited to just the wound. The entire wound healing process is often hampered if the patient has diseases such as diabetes, anemia, congestive heart failure, vitamin deficiencies and so on. The first step in wound management is an assessment of the wound, where the medical practitioner tries to determine the size and depth of the wound, the appearance of the surface of the wound and so on. Apart from this, one of the most important stages in the healing of a wound is the dressing provided by the doctor.
