Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is also known as cogeneration. CHP refers to a process where heat and electricity are produced at the same time through the utilisation of a single source of fuel such as natural gas and a range of others such as coal, waste gas and so on. In India, cogeneration is an extremely useful concept considering the high costs of electricity. Cogeneration plants also achieve much higher efficiency levels than conventional plants, apart from being much more environment-friendly as they have less emission levels. CHP plants are typically situated very close to the consumer locations, thus cutting down majorly on transmission and distribution losses.
