India has a proper health policy in place and healthcare regulation is the responsibility of the country’s government. Raising the level of nutrition of the population and improvement of the general condition of public health are some of the important aspects of the country’s health regulation and policies. However, in reality, the country’s public health infrastructure is perceived to be largely inadequate in catering to the demands of its ever-increasing population, and a large number of people prefer treatment through private infrastructure.
The country’s health policy has some well-defined objectives, and provision of comprehensive health care services for the population is a major one. Although government initiatives have gone a long way towards eradication of epidemic diseases in the country and resulted in a considerable decline in infant mortality rate, there is still much that needs to be done in this direction. What is required is a concerted effort on the part of the central and state governments to ensure proper and effective implementation of healthcare regulation and policies within the country.
