Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases that can affect the human body, and often proves to be fatal as treatment options tend to be limited. From a medical perspective, cancer is a disorder that leads to uncontrolled expansion of abnormal cells within the human body. These cells, which are then known as malignant cells, grow to form malignant tumors that invade nearby body parts. Cancers can develop anywhere within the body, such as the lungs, breasts, skin, bones and so on. While excessive drinking and smoking are generally associated with cancer, the exact causes of many forms of cancer remain largely unknown. Some of the commonly occurring forms of cancer include breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer.
In India, a large part of the population suffers from this deadly disease in some form or the other, and the numbers are increasing day after day. However, there is a serious shortage of oncologists required to treat the disease. As in the rest of the world, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy continue to be the leading forms of treatment for cancer in India.
