The amount of money that is given back to patients after they purchase prescriptions is known as a pharmaceutical reimbursement. Medicare drug reimbursement, pharmaceutical manufacturer reimbursement and insurance company reimbursement are some major categories of pharmaceutical reimbursements. For insurance companies to make reimbursements, a pharmacy reimbursement claim has to be filed by the patient. In case of medicare pharmaceutical reimbursements, the federal government is the insurer. Pharmaceutical reimbursements are handed out by drug manufacturers at a time when new products are being marketed. In India, pharmaceutical reimbursements are closely tied to pharmacoeconomic studies that measure the cost-effectiveness of introducing a new drug.
